Alys Beach, Florida – (February 15, 2008) – The Discovery Channel completed several days of filming in Alys Beach this week for a new series called, "the World's Greenest Homes."

"Alys Beach came upon me as a complete surprise," said Series Producer Jacquie Bynon, who has traveled to homes all around the world working on this project, including homes in Tasmania, England, Canada, Mexico and even a tree house in Australia. "Alys Beach was just so beautiful; so idyllic. It looked like the perfect place to live."

According to Bynon, the new series will launch on April 14th, and is part of the Discovery Channel's major new "Planet Green" network initiative.

As part of this initiative, Discovery Home channel will soon be re-branded as Discovery Planet Green – the first-ever 24-hour television network dedicated solely to green lifestyle programming.

The network will provide entertaining, authentic and quality information for such categories as eco-design, organic food and green architecture. Discovery said that it is investing $50 million to create the highest quality content for the new network, which is expected to debut in over 50 million U.S. homes.

"Our show will not be preachy," said Bynon. "In fact, we've found that people are often 'forced' to go green because of their remote location or because of the unique nature of their home. The World's Greenest Homes is about re-discovering practical wisdom. It's about returning to our roots. We're not featuring activists. We're showing real people and real families, who just happen to be living their lives in a way that makes the planet a better place."

Bynon said that the beautiful architecture of Alys Beach exemplifies this philosophy.

"In our travels, we often re-discover why things have been done a certain way for hundreds, if not thousands, of years," said Bynon. "For example, the white walls and rooftops of Alys Beach are not only visually striking—they actually help keep the homes cooler and more energy efficient by reflecting sunlight."

Alys Beach residents Erik Vogt and Marieanne Khoury-Vogt and their children were interviewed and filmed for the new series, and their courtyard home is expected to be a major focus of the Alys Beach episode.

Discovery Communications is the number-one nonfiction media company in the world, reaching more than 1.5 billion cumulative subscribers in over 170 countries. Discovery’s 100-plus worldwide networks are led by Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, The Science Channel, Discovery Health and HD Theater.

The World's Greenest Homes series is expected to debut on Monday, April 14, 2008 at 8:30pm Central Standard Time, although no date has yet been announced for the episode featuring Alys Beach.
