Director of Public Relations

Alys Beach is looking for a highly skilled, creative and well-connected Director of Public Relations - this position will coordinate media outreach and create external and internal communications for a luxury residential and resort community located in an upscale beach destination.  The ideal candidate will have worked in the luxury real estate and/or travel fields for similar properties, destinations or communities or for a public relations agency who specializes in such clients.  This person will have at least seven to ten years experience and a network of contacts, relationships and partnerships with journalists who have written for publications, websites and other outlets that focus on luxury real estate, travel, culinary, wellness and architecture/design.  They will be able to provide examples of articles, content and media coverage that have resulted from these relationships. They will report to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and be a part of a creative, hard-working and passionate team of marketing professionals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage existing media relationships and continue to develop a network of key contacts, relationships and partnerships with journalists who have written for publications, websites and other outlets that focus on the luxury real estate market, travel, culinary, wellness, or architecture/design
  • Organize, lead, and participate in media blitzes and media outreach efforts in key markets
  • Organize and host site visits and press trips to the property
  • Develop and manage a robust editorial calendar - create press releases, story pitches and media campaigns around the many facets of Alys Beach
  • Assist in the development of seasonal owner, guest and consumer communications
  • Assist in the production (print and digital versions) of seasonal newspaper, The Alys Gazette
  • Manage crisis communication plan and strategy
  • Assist in identifying appropriate brand partnerships and brand alignment opportunities
  • Assist in the promotion of several signature special events each year
  • Serve as a team member for a very active marketing and communication department
  • Responsible for business outcomes as related to other  departmental goals and objectives

Job Requirements

  • 7 to 10 years’ experience in preferred in the luxury real estate, hospitality or private club markets
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with platform such as Cision, PR Newswire Meltwater, or other platforms which distribute press releases
  • Membership or participation in industry associations, such as PRSA, FPRA, SATW

  • Manage multiple publicity projects on tight deadlines
  • Must be a self-starter but also a team player
  • Perform research and analysis of media outreach efforts
  • Create, cultivate, and maintain relationships with colleagues, peers, journalists and other stakeholders
  • Occasional weekend/night work required, or nights as dictated by press visits to Alys Beach, event support and coverage and other activities
  • Outside travel occasionally to support media blitzes out of market
