Splash! Caliza Pool sets a high-water mark for elegance and environmental sustainability
Publication: Fall / Winter ‘07

Nothing signals the season like the first swim of the year. For those waiting for the water temperature to rise, the wait is over. The time is right. The Caliza Pool opens this spring. Rarely has any body of water looked more appealing and inviting on a warm day than the long ellipse and gentle sloping edges that define the Caliza Pool. Its only rival is the absolute splendor of the Gulf of Mexico, and we '11g ladly defer to Mother Nature. Otherwise, we think nothing compares to the Caliza Pool. Conceived in the timeless tradition of the Greek agora or Roman piazza, Caliza Pool is many things to many people. It's a convivial gathering spot, a romantic experience, a place to really relax, or where you'll teach your children to swim. It's also one of the largest saltwater pools in Northwest Florida.

A series of three loggias frame the pool's main terrace, an elegant space paved in Dominican shellstone flagging. Carved out from this terrace is the main pool, a 100-foot-long elliptical form with a negative edge that seems to disappear. A built-in bench defines the perimeter, and grand steps into the water anchor either end. It's a pool designed for relaxing and lounging. For the serious swimmer, there's a 75-foot lap pool defined by a bamboo hedge along its outer edge and shaded by a wood trellis above.

And last, but certainly not least, is the precious and utterly practical children's pool. Located behind an allee of Medjool palms that frames a lower terrace, the pool is set in a raised stone coping with built-in benches that respond to the geometry of the outdoor room. A fabric canopy provides welcome shade for parents and for children playing in the water. The children's pool, as well as the main and lap pools, features state-of-the-art saltwater filtration systems. It's better for children's eyes and ears. It's better for skin and hair. And it's a lot better for the environment.

Find a sunny poolside perch to tan and splash, enjoy a casual lunch or a glass of wine in the afternoon, swim in the lap pool shaded by a trellis, let all your stress swirl away in the pool spa, laze away the day in a cabana reading a novel, or simply get lost in the water's mirror-like surface that blends with the sky. Relish the good things in life at the Caliza Pool.
