Musings on the beauty of Alys Beach from the photo files of Alys Beach Marketing
In design, “White Space,” or negative space, is an important visual element. The balance between positive and negative space is the key to aesthetic composition. In wellness, the same term can refer to promoting calm and clarity through the decluttering of mental space. The overall compositions of Alys Beach provide an abundant ratio of white space, which offers impactful architectural contrast, and at the same time provokes a serenity and peacefulness that is particularly meaningful at this time.
While many of us are away from the beauty from Alys Beach, we hope that we can share a glimpse of the town’s clean lines and contrasts for a moment of white space in your day. We hope that you enjoy this simple collection of images, The Shapes of Alys, from the archives of the Alys Beach marketing team.
As we continue to navigate the changes and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, our real estate sales have remained steady and constant, a testament to the values upon which the town was founded. Resilience and longevity have been part of the premise behind the Alys Beach master plan from conception, designed to weather any storm.
Did you know that The Alys Foundation is responsible for funding the Alys Beach events we love and enjoy, the artwork that graces Alys’ common spaces, and also supports local nonprofits? Let us give you the lowdown on the Foundation so you know the role it plays in our town and the larger community.
The Alys Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to support the long-term community values of Alys Beach. Funds are used to finance community, environmental, cultural and educational programs at Alys Beach as well as to help other nonprofit organizations in the greater Walton County community.Â
The Alys Foundation supports the arts in the form of funding the purchasing of artworks and sculptures on property. Hand selected by the Stephens Family Design Committee, these works of art are found throughout the town of Alys Beach and each hold special meaning.
In addition to supporting local charities, the Foundation continues to give back to the community by hosting events in Alys Beach including the 30A Songwriters Festival, 30A Wine Festival, Digital Graffiti, Sinfonia Goes Pops, and the Alys Beach 5K & One-Mile Fun Run.
Donations and contributions support the foundation’s year-round efforts, with two of the Foundation’s annual, internal sponsors including the Alys Beach Sales Team and Alys Beach Construction. With each home sale in Alys Beach comes a special contribution to the Alys Foundation, and sponsorships are open and available to individuals and entities interested in making donations. Donation information and sponsorship opportunities for events such as the 30A Wine Festival or Digital Graffiti can be requested by email to events@alysbeach.com.
To apply for a grant from the Alys Foundation, go to www.thealysfoundation.com/contact. The Alys Foundation is eager to support our community within Alys Beach as well as throughout Walton County. We appreciate your continued support of the Foundation. Stay tuned to The Alys Journal to learn more about each charity that Foundation funds support!

Alys Beach Marks Original Digital Graffiti Dates with a Virtual DG Celebration
While our treasured annual Digital Graffiti festival has been rescheduled for October 2–3, 2020, Alys Beach will honor the original dates with a virtual celebration. #DGfromhome events will take place over May 11th–17th on Alys Beach social channels (Instagram @DGalysbeach and @alysbeachfl; Facebook @DigitalGraffitiFestival and @alysbeachfl) as well as on 30A.com.
In keeping with the Digital Graffiti experience, #DGfromhome will be an interactive, participatory virtual experience featuring interviews with past DG artists, a message from the event curator, a live DJ takeover and a DG-themed trivia event. Most importantly, digital files will be available upon request (email: events@alysbeach.com) allowing the audience to display the digital artwork in their own backyard, living room, (makeshift) theater…anywhere that DG can be safely and comfortably enjoyed. Whether on a screen, TV, computer or mobile device, we hope our participants will immerse themselves in the creativity and innovation of Digital Graffiti with their own #DGfromhome experiences.
We invite #DGfromhome participants to share their experiences, and past Digital Graffiti festival moments, via social media and/or by emailing images to events@alysbeach.com. We will share images and videos tagged with #DGfromhome, or sent to the events email address, in a round-up video commemorating the festival.
For those wishing to participate in #DGfromhome, email events@alysbeach.com. The Events Team will email a dropbox link to download the #DGfromhome digital art loop starting Monday, May 11th. Questions on technical set-up for projecting art can also be sent to events@alysbeach.com.
At this time of social distancing, Patrick brings ZUMA fitness into your home via WebEx Video, and offers private fitness sessions Â
Patrick Hoffner will be rolling out a virtual training series, ZUMA Connect, including body weight classes, yoga, TRX classes, fitness tips and various other training sessions via WebEx Video Conferencing. From the ZUMA Movement Room or from our exercise lawn, Patrick will conduct classes and monitor form and movement of participants via video screen. Classes will also be recorded and cataloged in an online library for future access.
Additionally, Patrick will be offering very small, private fitness sessions to current ZUMA members. These sessions will take place outdoors on the exercise lawn and will be limited to 2 – 3 participants, appropriately spaced and according to current safety protocols.
Physical wellness is important as we continue to stay home or limit our movements to flatten the curve. We hope that this virtual fitness program, and the private sessions, will help promote wellness with our Alys Beach homeowners and ZUMA members. It’s important to stay active, keep our bodies moving and make healthy choices for body and mind.
Alys Beach homeowners and ZUMA members should look to receive more information, participation details, program schedules and sign-ups very soon.
Thank you for joining us for the inaugural issue of The Alys Journal. We sincerely look forward to the day when we can all be together again.Â
