This visual exploration of the details found in the design of Alys Beach is a continuation of our “of Alys” series. In September/October, we foraged our way, responsibly, through the pedestrian paths and common areas of Alys, and admired the fruits woven into the landscape of our town in “Fruits of Alys.”
This month, we admire the striking patterns made across the white stucco walls, the shellstone pavers, the cobblestone streets as the autumn sun stretches shadows across our paths. The geometric angles of the Alys architecture, portals and pergolas, custom gate designs and overhead lanterns, palm fronds and palmettos – the details of Alys partner perfectly with the bright Florida sunshine to cast an everchanging array of graphic shadow patterns. Walking town at different times of day reveals a constantly changing experience in architectural shadow play. In the days ahead, we hope you’ll be inspired to take notice of the dynamic interplay of shadows around town, stretched along our white masonry walls, across shellstone pathways, and over the undulations of the fine white sands along our beaches.
