Digital Graffiti 2014 Visiting Artist Series: Artist Talk

Alys Beach and its groundbreaking event, Digital Graffiti (DG), has led the way for the past seven years in bringing art and culture to the South Walton community and Scenic Highway 30A by providing a venue and reason for digital artists to showcase their one-of-a-kind works. For the second year, four digital artists will converge at Alys Beach to participate in a five-day residency, working in the space where their art may be chosen for projection during the seventh annual Digital Graffiti Festival. The public will have the opportunity to interact with these artists during the residency and get a glimpse into their creative processes.

During the DG2014 Visiting Artist Series, previous DG finalists will reside under one roof and work with DG Curator Brett Phares to create site-specific work for inclusion in the 2014 Digital Graffiti Festival on June 6-7. The artists include Amber Bushnell of Missoula, Montana, Dmitry Kmelnitsky of Los Angeles, California, David Montgomery of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and Richard Kroehling of New York, New York.

“Time for a refresh of what we know works at DG while delivering on new ways to see the intersection of art, technology, and architecture. Our visiting artist series opens up the conversation of what makes great projected art, where it’s going, what it looks like,” says Brett Phares, Digital Graffiti Curator. “For 2014, we want more site-responsive work at Alys Beach, more color, more verve, and this year’s group of visiting artists will help us get there.”

The workshop series is complimentary and open to the public on Friday, January 24 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Alys Beach Community Center on 60 McGee Drive. During this two-hour workshop, participants will have the opportunity for discussion with the artists in residence as well as a question-and-answer session.
