During these times, it is easy to see the bad in the world. To see the things that have gone wrong or grieve the things that could have been. But, for those of us who find ourselves fortunate enough to have a furry friend in our life, we know that the presence of a dog brings both healing and hope. Perhaps they have been our quarantine companions—steady and endless in uplifting energy, even in the face of monotony. Maybe their outdoor enthusiasm brought us into the sun and the light when the walls of our homes felt close. And certainly, their warm bodies rested against our own reminded us that with a dog, we're never really alone.

Meet this issue’s Dogs of Alys Beach. Belonging to Laurette and Jim Shaw, and their children Caroline, Annalise, and Elizabeth, the Shaw pups are vibrant travel companions and have always brought smiles to passers-by on the beach and around town. Lexie the Golden Retriever is the faithful bird watcher, Maisy is the very serious and champion-in-her-own-right ball retriever, and Riley has no reason to think he’s anything other than a big, fluffy dog, just like his sisters.
